Andrew Conolly – Founder and Executive Director
ACTS is not an ordinary ministry organisation. We are a community-focussed, Christian tourism organization with total commitment and passion for Africa and God’s plan for its people. I believe that this passion, along with a great team spirit and an honest business ethic based on God’s Word, is what makes ACTS unique and like none other on this continent. There are some absolutely incredible people within ACTS who have committed a lot of time and energy to this ministry, and who are hugely passionate about Africa. This continent truly is, without doubt, the most stunning on earth. So many people come here to enrich the lives of Africans, but leave the continent being greatly inspired and enriched themselves, by God and the wonderful people and nature He has placed here.
Kevin Liddle – Executive Director
Having been born in Africa I have been privileged to experience Africa’s beauty from a young age. I feel passionate about visitors coming to Africa and experiencing Africa in a way that benefits the continent and its people, whilst at the same time broadening their own horizons. It is an honour to be a part of a dynamic organization that can assist you in exploring Africa through missions and community involvement. Before I joined ACTS I studied at the University of Cape Town and spent a couple of years working for a multi national company. I live in Harare, Zimbabwe and am married to Mandy. We have three sons, Joshua, Samuel and Osment, who expend more energy in a day than I have for a week! I love boating and any kind of sports, whether playing or watching as spectator.
Sean Anderson – Managing Director
Whilst I am proudly Zimbabwean (my forefathers arrived in Africa in 1800), I have had the privilege of living and working with ACTS across the continent. I consider it a privilege to have been involved in some tremendously exciting work that combines my passions for God, Africa’s people and its wildlife – and on top of it all with a great team of friends that I consider family! I love discovering ways to not only offer an excellent service to visitors, but moreover to make a lasting impact in local communities through the local church and the various ministries we are blessed to serve. When I have a spare moment, I love escaping into the bush with my beautiful wife, daughter and son who are proving to be fast learners with those clumsy binoculars!
Barry Rawlings – Managing Director South Central Africa
“Why would you move from Cape Town to Zimbabwe?”, I’m often asked. Well, no city beats Cape Town, but Zimbabwe is where I’m meant to be and has equally won my heart. The people, open spaces and church life here are incredible. This feels like ‘real’ Africa and, for me anyway, it feels somehow easier to make a meaningful contribution.
I backpacked Southern and East Africa after university and have been travelling the continent ever since. Before I knew it my passport was being replaced as it was completely full and without a single non-African stamp! African travel and serving Jesus are in the blood, and how many people get to spend every day working in their area of greatest passion? I am in love with Africa and count the opportunity to introduce others to this continent and its people an absolute privilege.
Based out of Harare, I oversee the overland operations in Zimbabwe and the cluster of neighbouring countries. When not in the office I am involved in a variety of church related work, orphanages and enjoy playing cricket – actually anything involving a ball. I am thoroughly enjoying life with my wife and two young sons.
Michael Massingham – Managing Director Southern Africa
I have had the privilege of joining ACTS early on and serving in missions for 7 years now. It all began with a career break in 2003 when I decided to travel up to Zimbabwe from Durban to volunteer for three months as an overland guide. I fell in love with the country, the work and a beautiful local girl! After a year, I moved to Cape Town to open ACTS South Africa, which has been a wonderful experience. I love seeing God change and grow people and I love showing them our beautiful continent. ACTS is an awesome company with committed people who love God and are passionate about seeing God’s Kingdom established throughout Africa . My wonderful wife Meg and I have been blessed with a beautiful young daughter, Ella.
Adrian Maarschalk – General Manager, East Africa
I was born and raised in Zimbabwe. I finished school at the end of 1999 and moved to the UK for a gap year in 2000. After that, I spent three years at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa and then immigrated to New Zealand at the end of 2003 and lived there 4 ½ years before moving to Kenya. I recently married my beautiful wife Carmen. Working for ACTS, I have the privilege of serving many of God’s people in the work they are doing in East Africa.
Claudine Foster – General Manager, Southern Africa
As a young girl I compiled a “Claudine’s 7 wonders of Africa list” and vowed to cover them all! At the age of 16, just old enough to know what a border post was, I did my first overland Africa trip to Zimbabwe to see the mighty Victoria Falls. Since then, my list has continued to grow longer and longer, to even include an sailing trip which I ended up doing with my incredible husband, Richard. Together we have backpacked Asia, Europe and most of Southern Africa, being blessed with extraordinary experiences, which eventually led me to work for this amazing company. I started my working career in the tourism and travel industry as a provincial guide, after which I completed a certification in bookkeeping. My family is originally from the Belgium Congo, and my absolute love for wildlife leads me to believe that Africa will always be my home!
Sarah Carroll – Operations Manager, South Central Africa
I’m a born and raised Southern girl from Tennessee! I took my first trip to Africa when I was 14 and was hooked! I felt God calling me to Zimbabwe, so I studied International Studies at university and visited Africa every chance I got. Through various events I ended up meeting and marrying a Zimbabwean, and now live in the capital, Harare. Working with ACTS has allowed me to combine my love of travel with my passion for missions. God works in amazing ways!
Charl Ackermann – Continental Marketing & Sales
I was born & raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. My passion for people and travel lead me to study tourism and marketing management. After I finished my studies, I worked and travelled in the UK for 2 years. I now find myself living in the most beautiful city, Cape Town. I believe that God is really on the move in Africa and I am just so grateful that I can play a small part in what He is busy doing through missions.
Carmen Maarschalk – Regional Projects Manager, East Africa
I was born and raised in South Africa and after completing my degree in occupational therapy in Cape Town and spending some time in rural Mpumalanga, I felt I needed to find out a bit more about Africa! And so my desire to come to Kenya was born. Although I had originally planned to join ACTS for a short period only, I quickly fell in love with Kenya, its people and all that East Africa has to offer! So when I was offered a full-time position, it was an easy decision to commit to staying for longer. A little later I fell in love with a fellow ACTS colleague, Adrian, and we got married at the end of 2010. I love serving God and His people here in this beautiful country.
